JET Jaguars ready for action

JET Jaguars Nov. 2nd Game

The Jaguars continuued their momentum and showed up ready to play on Sunday vs. Hillsborough.  This was another rematch in which we lost the first game 3-0 so we knew they'd be tough.  We struck first as Lizzie E. got a goal by finishing off a cross that was hanging around in the box.  We went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.  But Hillsborough was battling us hard.  They were able to score a goal on a long uncontested shot from outside the box that took a nasty bounce to beat Lizzie C. in goal.  Our defense had some problems with coverage and often there were open people in the box.....the midfielders were slow to react and unfortunately that resulted in many uncontested shots.  Lizzie E., Katie M, Bridgette M and Ashley had some opportunities on offense but we just couldn't convert.  Lindsay, Sarah, and Caila did a decent job in the midfield by overlapping and sending the ball forward.   Kelsey R and Hanna played well on defense by stepping to the ball and anticipating their plays.Unfortunately the clock ran out before we could sneak another one in the net.  I was impressed by our intensity and our hustle all over the field.  Final score 2-1.

JET Jaguars Tie Nov. 1st Home Game

Hey Everyone.  Great Game Today.  The Jaguars showed up ready to play.  Last weekend we were defeated by a pesky South Brunswick Team and today was payback.  We had a very good showing from everyone.  Congrats to both Ally and Lizzie E. on their goals.  Ally's goal came about mid way thru the first half when Kelsey R. sent a rocket long kick down the left line.  Ally was tenacious in her pursuit and was able to block the defenders clear.  She then put the ball high over the goalies head.  Katie M. and Lizzie E. took turns marking their best player (in my opinion) and completely shut her down.  She was ineffective in the middle of the field.  Lizzie C. made several great saves for us in net to keep us ahead.  Then in the second half South Bruns got a quick goal on a defensive mix up.  They crossed the field several times and it seemed our girls were confused on who should go to the ball.  Unfortunately they took advantage of our disorientation.  We held them tight defensively and had several opportunities of our own.  Lizzie E. and Sarah H. dominated the right side of the field creating several crosses and scoring opportunities.  Alexis, Ally, Bridgette and Ashley had some chances as well.  Then with about 5 min left South Bruns scored again on a low ball just past Lizzie.  Again, confusion in the box!  I was devastated...but the girls were able to pick themselves up and keep fighting.  With just about 2 minutes left Lizzie E. was on a breakaway to goal when she got taken down from behind.  A penalty kick was called.  Despite the nervous look on her face and the fact that she's been primarily a defensive player for us, I decided that she should take the penalty kick.  She knocked the ball high and hard into the left hand corner to score the goal!  Her first goal ever (I think...definitely first one with Jaguars).  Great job Lizzie and great job Jaguars!  Of course I most often fail to mention our stellar defense that I sometime take for granted.  Kelsey R. Great work....Hanna - Way to Step up and take away chances....and Madison - Good work back there....you are continuuing to improve in that role.  Let's keep up the momentum and get a win tomorrow.  Final score 2-2.  Not bad since last time they beat us 3-0.  I think we shocked them.

JET Jaguars Win Oct. 19th Away Game

Ridge Mavericks Lightning

The Jaguars defeated Ridge Mavericks 1-0 with a goal about 10 min into the game off of a corner kick.  Kelsey R. placed a beautiful ball in the box for Rachel to finish.  We kept the intensity up for the entire first half and kept the ball in their end.  Lizzie C. came out of goal to clear a couple of long balls to make sure they didn't have any good chances.  Madison controlled the defense and Lizzie E. was all over the field making tackles and winning the ball for us.  Ally K., Lizzie E., Rachel, Caila, Katie and Bridgette took shots but no one could convert.  In the second half they came out strong but Lizzie C. was able to preserve the shut out with her stellar play in goal.  She had a couple of great saves including a break away!  Great job girls.  Let's keep up the momentum now.

JET Jaguars Win Sept. 21 Home Game

The Jaguars got their first regular season win yesterday, defeating Hunterdon 2-1.  The Jaguars struck first off a low shot to the corner by Sarah H., assisted by Rachel H.  Hunterdon came back with a goal shot high over Lizzie's head to close out the first half.  With only 11 players Hunterdon started to tire in the second half but they were still pushing the ball forward.  We got a great defensive performance out of Kelsey R.  Both Rachel and Lizzie E. held their own in the mid field to disrupt any scoring opportunities from our opponents.  Then with just about 5 minutes left Kelsey R. took a corner kick and put the ball low across the goal line.  Ally K. was there to poke it in to put us ahead.  As always Lizzie C. gave us a great effort in goal to preserve the win.  Sarah H. was vocal and leading the team on the field and she had the best game we've ever seen her play.  Because of this we have named her captain for the year.  Congratulations Sarah and Congratulations Jaguars!

JET Jaguars Piscataway Tournament

The Jaguars went 1-2 on the day, winning their first game of the season!  The first game was a battle vs. Edison but we played them tough.  They scored on a goal in the second half and beat us 1-0.  Lizzie C. had several brilliant saves to keep us in the game but we just couldn't put one in the net to tie it up.  We played the second game immediately after the first at the request of the other team who didn't want to wait til 5 pm.  We had plenty of subs so we decided to go for it.  They scored first after us playing them evenly all over the field.  With about 5 min left to play Kelsey R. scored an awesome in-swinging goal off of a corner kick!  Then with only seconds on the clock Lizzie C. blasted one of her awesome punts well over mid-field.  It bounced over the keepers fingertips, off the goalies hands and into the net to put us ahead 2-1.  That amazing punt won the game for us.  The third game of our marathon of soccer was against a strong Piscataway opponent.  We faced them 3 times last year and lost twice and tied once....we just couldn't get over the hump today!  We had some chances but just couldn't finish.  They had a couple of breakaways and created some mis-matches in our back field that allowed them to score.  The final score was 4-0.  Overall, good job Jaguars.  We have a lot to improve on but we did alot of things well today too!  Congrats on your first win of the season.
